Balearics insist tourists wear face masks, even outside
Tourists visiting Spain’s Balearic islands will have to wear face masks outdoors as well as indoors following the introduction of a new security measure.
The exceptions are on the beach or promenades, in natural open spaces, when performing a physical activity including water sports, and while eating and drinking.
It was already mandatory to wear masks in the Balearics where it wasn’t possible to maintain a distance of at least 1.5 metres.
However, the government has decided that socially distancing isn’t possible in most situations, so it has decided to mandate the use of face masks in both open and closed spaces.
This includes in hotels and public areas such as lobbies, corridors and lifts.
It said other regions of Spain had already done the same.
Under 16s will be exempt while they are within their ‘bubble’.
In the meantime, Spain has released a new tourism campaign called ‘Back to Spain’ featuring a series of videos and digital advertisements that will appear in its key tourism markets.
The official website for Spanish tourism, Spain.info has been revamped to incorporate a mobile-first philosophy. It includes a range of tools for travellers, such as maps and downloadable brochures.
