Bali tourism survival from Aus still under shadow
It appears that discussions yesterday between the Bali Tourism Board and Australia’s Ambassador in for Indonesia Bill Farmer, were what were described as full and frank, with Ambassador Farmer meeting BTB chairman Bagus Sudibya as a result of claimed discrimination by the Australian Government against Bali through the issuing of travel advisories.
Mr Sudibya reportedly made it very clear to Ambassador Farmer that safety and security have both been improved substantially in the wake of the 2002 and 2005 attacks and this needed to be recognised by Australia.
TravelMole readers will recall the recent article written by TravelMole Tourism Crisis and Recovery Correspondant David Beirman – pls click on https://www.travelmole.com/stories/1113165.php?news_cat=&pagename=searchresult in which David made it clear that the Australian Government had a duty of care to offer these advisories to its citizens to protect their interests and safety.
It is also reported today that Bali Tourism leaders met with Garuda yesterday to attempt to persuade the airline not to proceed with is planned ending of direct flights from Australia with an announcemtn being made that Garuda has provided a compromise by retaining limited services between Brisbane to Bali, ensuring peak holiday services, prior to the termination of all services from Brisbane on 14 January 2007.
Additional information can be obtained from Garuda.
