Bangkok’s airport link is just seven weeks away

Tuesday, 01 Jul, 2010 0

Bangkok’s long-awaited Airport Link train will begin commercial services on August 23.

The link will run between downtown Bangkok to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The city-line train, catering to commuters and airport workers, will stop at all stations between Phya Thai and Suvarnabhumi Airport, while the non-stop Airport Express departs from the main station at Makkasan, taking just 15 minutes to reach the airport.

The launch has been postponed several times due to technical complications.

The non-stop express line will have a fare of Bt100 per person (US$3), down from Bt150.

The Airport Link has been operating free trials since last month.

Meanwhile, Thai Airways International’s seat occupancy rate rose from 50 per cent in April and May to 70 per cent in June, vice president Danuch Bunnak said this week.

He said it was clear that the number of passengers from Europe had increased since early June. Most of them were tourists who had visited Thailand before, he added.
