The Foreign Office has advised Britons not to travel to Bangladesh.

The warning came as a state of emergency was declared in the Asian country and a curfew was imposed on major cities.

The FO said there was a “high threat” of terrorism in Bangladesh.

“We advise against all but essential travel to Bangladesh. Although the security situation is Bangladesh is uncertain, it could deteriorate quickly,” the FO said.

There has been widespread civil unrest leading to up to 70 deaths and several thousand injuries since October 27, the FO said.

“Further violent demonstrations are expected, especially in Dhaka.”

Flights to and from Dhaka International Airport are opeating as normal for now but travellers were advised to check with airlines for flight arrangements.
