Bath Christmas Market bustles this year
Recording its busiest ever shopping day on Saturday 1 December, Bath Christmas Market saw visitors of up to 24,000 arrive into the city in what is being heralded as the most successful trading day in the Christmas Markets’ history. Organised by Bath Tourism Plus, the Market is a key holiday season draw in a city best known to travelers abroad for its connections with Jane Austen and its ancient Roman hot springs bath as well as its connections with the Canterbury Tales (the Wife of Bath) and its Georgian architecture.
Visitors into Bath over the whole weekend reached record numbers of up to 40,000.
Bath Christmas Market brings in an estimated £11milion to the local economy. Its local and regional retailers offer their wares in quaint wooden chalet style stalls in one of the most popular and picturesque cities in the UK.
Nick Brooks Sykes, Chief Executive of Bath Tourism Plus added: "After a few days of unprecedented bad weather at the beginning of the Christmas Market, I am delighted that visitor numbers are in line with our expectations. Clearly, our Christmas marketing campaign – the biggest ever – which we undertook in partnership with the Bath Improvement District (BID), has worked and the City’s retailers are seeing the effects of this. The Bath Christmas Market remains a firm favourite with both locals and visitors and is responsible for generating significant economic impact for the area."
