B&Bs battle it out for title of best in the UK
A shortlist of 110 of the UK’s best B&Bs, guest houses, inns, serviced apartments, self-catering units and small independent hotels has been published.
Nominees will now battle it out across eight categories for awards such as ‘Most Beautifully Presented’, ‘Quirkiest Place to Stay’ and ‘Tastiest Breakfast’, which will be judged and presented by celebrity chef, Phil Vickery.
The shortlisted properties include a windmill, a houseboat and a shepherd’s hut, with one property offering guests the chance to do yoga on horseback.
A panel of industry experts will review the nominees and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in the autumn.
Awards host Eviivo, which provides online booking services to the sector, claims that shortlisted properties typically go on to command rates that are 8% higher than the rest of the sector and enjoy 17% higher occupancy levels.
David Weston, chairman of the Bed & Breakfast Association, who is also one of the judges, said: "With over 1,000 B&Bs opening since 2015, it is great to see that the sector is enjoying a revival.
"These brilliant B&Bs offer a glimpse of the fantastic range of accommodation this country has to offer its visitors, whether they be domestic or international."
Fellow judge Yvonne Halling, a former award-winning B&B owner and a consultant, coach and mentor to the hospitality sector, said: "Running a B&B in the 21st century is demanding and requires multiple skills, hard work and dedication – these awards help to shine a light on and identify the finest businesses within the UK’s hospitality sector."
The eviivo awards take place on October 16 at Quaglino’s in London.
