Beattie unveils Tourism package
Premier Peter Beattie has unveiled the details of a $48 million package to lure more tourists to Queensland if Labor is re-elected.
It would include an extra $12 million for tourism marketing in Australia, of which $6 million is new money.
Peter Beattie made the announcement on the campaign trail in Yeppoon in central Queensland yesterday morning.
He says the funding is also aimed at generating more jobs.
“The Queensland tourism industry, it will help generate 41,000 new jobs in the next 10 years,” he said.
“Eleven thousand of those are more than what was anticipated.
“So we want to continue to invest in this industry which employs 136,000 Queenslanders, and we want to make sure it’s got the support that’s necessary.”
