Bed and breakfast and hot baths

Tuesday, 15 Sep, 2008 0

Founded more than 400 years ago when they served as Japan’s original travellers hotels, traditional ‘Ryokan’ inns offer the perfect accommodation solution for those looking for a taste of the ‘real’ Japan and the country’s legendary levels of personal service.

Features of these traditional inns include paper ‘shoji’ walls and screens, tatami straw mats and Futons.

Many of the Ryokans also offer communal ‘onsens’ – hot spring baths – renowned for their therapeutic and relaxing properties.

From the perspective of service, little has changed since the Ryokans were first established in the 1600’s with personal maids always close at hand to take care of guests.

The same applies to fine dining with the opportunity to sample traditional Japanese degustation menus prepared by the inns’ resident chefs a hallmark of a stay in a Ryokan.

Per person per night prices start from as little as AUD116* which in most cases also includes breakfast and dinner.

Travel Japan by H.I.S. offers Ryokan accommodation in Kyoto, Hakone, Nagano, Takayama, Hokkaido and Tokyo.

*Conditions apply. Please note the Tokyo Ryokan tariff does not include dinner.
