BANGKOK – -Best Western delivered a record US$1.16 billion in reservations revenue to its hotels in fiscal year 2008.

The chain ended 2008 with 4,018 hotels in 80 countries – on par with 2007 numbers – including 2,251 in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, and 1,767 internationally.

Best Western said the current number of hotels is a result of stepped-up brand quality assurance efforts in 2007, resulting in high member retention in 2008, and continued growth in India, China and the rest of Asia.

There are more than 130 Best Western hotels & resorts in Asia.

Said Glenn de Souza, vice president international operations Asia, “We opened 16 hotels in Asia in 2008, including six hotels each in Japan, Vietnam and Thailand, six hotels in China, and four hotels in India.

“And as of year-end 2008, Best Western offered approximate 13,260 rooms around the region which we expect to raise to 25,000 rooms within 2010.”

Best Western is also expanding its presence in Asia in 2009 with the introduction of the upscale Best Western Premier brand.

The first installments of Best Western’s new in-house spa concept, Bhuvana Spa, will also be rolled out in 2009.
