Fiona Jeffrey Chairman of WTM Unveiled a Bigger than Ever Sustainable Tourism Programme
Not just Responsible Tourism Day, but many destinations unveiled new sustainable tourism initiatives at WTM
The sustainable tourism movement appears to be changing from a shiver to a real groundswell of opinion and last week’s World Travel Market was certainly a wonderful showcase.
The stars of the week were, as last year, New Zealand, who last year won the destination and the overall prize and this year won the overall prize with Whale Watch Kaikoura, a community tourism initiative
See interview with George Hickton of Tourism New Zealand and Wally Stone of Whale Watch Kaikoura (before) www.travelmole.tv/watch_vdo.php

Other major initiatives included:
New Mexico’s Ecotourism initiative (including staying on reservations) – See Jennifer Hobson New Mexico’s Deputy Cabinet Secretary: www.travelmole.tv/watch_vdo.php
Ever-growing small group travel adventure company GAP Adventures and their charitable foundation Planeterra won a handful of prizes before and during WTM including a World Travel Award. We talk to Bruce Poon Tip and Richard G Edwards: www.travelmole.tv/watch_vdo.php
Fiona Jeffrey laid her cards emphatically on the table in front of over a hundred tourism ministers at the UNWTO summit: www.travelmole.com/stories/1139473.php
And Dermot Blastland inferred that it’s time to get real, stop hugging metaphorical trees and make sustainable tourism work in the mainstream: www.travelmole.tv/watch_vdo.php
Adam Stewart of Sandals told us about all the sustainable work Sandals is doing: www.travelmole.tv/watch_vdo.php
A Big Green Tourism Expo was announced for Abu Dhabi www.travelmole.tv/watch_vdo.php
And Geoffrey Lipman (who you could say started it all in 1994) Had the last word: www.travelmole.tv/watch_vdo.php
