Birmingham airport strike threat

Monday, 13 Oct, 2005 0

Security, fire and maintenance workers are threatening to strike at Birmingham airport following the dismissal of two colleagues.

The Amicus union, which represents more than 200 staff at Birmingham, claims industrial will shut the airport.

A pre-Christmas strike is possible if the union carries out its threat to ballot for industrial action in the next two months.

Amicus is preparing the ballot after disputing three allegations made against two men suspended by the airport.

The two workers are accused of unauthorised absence, falsification of records and breaches of trust and security, the union says.

Amicus described the allegations as being “completely without foundation” with officer Peter Coulson saying: “We will be looking to conduct an industrial action ballot in the next week”.
