Blackpool launches new marketing company
Blackpool has launched a new marketing company to help the tourist board promoting the resort.
Marketing Blackpool is owned by Blackpool Council but it will ultimately have a board of directors from the private sector and a private sector chairman.
The first representatives on the Board will come from Merlin Entertainments and Pleasure Beach Resort, Blackpool. Additional members will be appointed in the next few months.
Assistant chief executive for Regeneration, Tourism and Culture for Blackpool Council Alan Cavill said: “The establishment of Marketing Blackpool will mean that it is able to work more closely with the private sector in order to promote the resort.
"By working with external companies, Marketing Blackpool will be able to market the resort much more effectively and work to develop a much stronger brand, developing the product which Blackpool has to offer.
"The aim is to establish Blackpool as Europe’s premier seaside resort by building on the fantastic work which visitBlackpool has done. This will ensure that we are well set to achieve this target."
It is anticipated that, in time, the company will be owned by both the public and private sector.
Services which will be provided by Marketing Blackpool, in addition to marketing and events, includes the operation of the resort’s Tourist Information Centre along with both business and leisure tourism functions.
The company’s activity will be delivered by staff from visitBlackpool who are to be seconded into the company.
