Bomb alert for Heathrow-bound jet
Passengers were ushered off a London-bound aircraft at a US airport after a telephoned bomb threat.
American Airlines officials received a call claiming two flights were going to be blown up, one at Boston’s Logan airport and the other at Philadelphia airport.
At Philadelphia, 19 passengers were taken off American Airlines flight 4543, bound for Boston, airport spokesman Mark Pesce told Reuters news agency.
He said passengers were “re-screened” while the aircraft was searched. Nothing was found but the flight was cancelled.
Later at Boston a connecting flight to Heathrow, Americna Airlines flight 156, was searched by police with dogs as it was about to take off.
Again nothing was found, and this time the aircraft, carrying nearly 160 people, was allowed to depart an hour behind schedule.
Reuters quotes an American Airlines spokeswoman as saying a call had been received in Philadelphia threatening both flights.
Philadelphia police said the call was made to a hotel at the ariport, whose staff reported it to authorities. The FBI and state law enforcement officials are investigating.
