Bomb scare delays easyJet flight overnight
An easyJet flight from Geneva to London Gatwick was delayed for more than 12 hours after a passenger found a note marked “bomb”. According to the online news provider Ananova, the discovery was made in a baggage compartment as passengers boarded flight EZY975 on Wednesday evening. All 146 passengers on the flight were evacuated, put through another security check, and had all their luggage screened again – before checking into a nearby hotel when it was decided the flight would be delayed overnight. The flight eventually left yesterday morning. A spokesman for Geneva airport reportedly said: “The passenger warned the crew and the captain decided to call the police, who came and decided to evacuate the plane. Every time, we have to take these threats seriously. We do not let the least suspicion pass.” Meanwhile, a passenger who accidentally travelled to Stansted Airport with a ball-bearing gun has been jailed for four months. David Burrows, 44, of Norfolk, was stopped by security guards at the airport last month. At Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday, Ananova reports, Burrows was warned that he would serve at least one month of the sentence. Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
