Bomb threat at JFK
Two jets arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport were searched after an anonymous telephone threat was received against them on Monday.
The caller said that a hijacker and explosives were on board two jets, an American Airlines flight arriving from San Francisco and a Finnair flight arriving from Helsinki, Finland.
Both flights were brought to a secured location on the tarmac, met by authorities and searched. The FBI said nothing suspicious was found.
Last week, US Airways flight was returned to its place of origin in Philadelphia after a similar anonymous phone call said a passenger was carrying liquid explosives. The call turned out to be from an ex girlfriend’s current boyfriend, Kenneth W. Smith, Jr., 26, who was federally charged for the hoax and now faces up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
