Bombs discovered in Sardinian resort
Two bombs have reportedly been discovered in a Sardinian holiday resort where Tony and Cherie Blair have been staying with the Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi.
According to the BBC News website, police have already diffused one device in the coastal resort of Porto Rotundo, where Berlusconi has his holiday villa.
The Blair’s left the island yesterday amid concerns that Italy could be an imminent terror target for a group linked to al-Qaeda, which has stated that it would attack the country if it did not withdraw its troops from Iraq.
However, the BBC, quoting the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, says that the two bombs were likely to have been left by an anarchist organisation that has carried out 20 attacks over the last four years.
The report states that a tip-off led to the bombs being discovered. However, the caller did not give details of the bombs’ whereabouts, reportedly saying: “We’re not telling you; go and find it. It is for Berlusconi.”
