Booking.com faces claim for 356 million euros in France

Booking.com is reportedly facing a claim from French authorities for €356 million (£276m) in unpaid taxes.

According to documents seen by Reuters, French authorities have recently audited Booking.com’s accounts from 2003 to 2012 and are now demanding the payment.

The French government is insisting that because Booking.com has a base in France, it should pay income and value-added taxes.

The documents, filed by Booking.com’s parent Priceline, said the majority of money demanded is for penalties and interest.

Priceline said it would contest the ruling in court if it could not come to an agreement.

In the same filing, Priceline said Italian tax authorities were also examining whether Booking.com should be subject to additional tax obligations in Italy.
