Boots to issue new sunburn warnings
UK: Research in United States suggests products can increase skin’s sensitivity
Boots the chemist is to introduce a new series of sunburn warnings after it was discovered some of its skincare products could increase sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation.
Research carrier out in the United States suggests products containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) could make skin more sensitive – and in December, the American Food and Drug Administration published guidance on how to alert customers to the associated risks.
Now Boots has announced that it will soon start to print warnings on all skincare products that could increase sensitivity.
The company issued the following statement: “While AHAs can increase some people’s sensitivity to burning, this effect is small. Even so, we recommend that it is particularly important to use a sunscreen product if you go out in the sun after using an AHA product. Going forward, Boots products containing AHAs will include additional, precautionary advice regarding AHAs and sun protection.”
