Boston approves $4.4 billion in Logan upgrades
Directors of the Massachusetts Port Authority, operators of Logan Airport, have approved plans for more than $4.4 billion in upgrades to the facility during the next five years.
The money will to for renovated and expanded terminals, upgraded heating and cooling systems and road improvements. The terminal size will be nearly doubled to 900,000 square feet.
To help pay for capital improvements, the airport is trying to increase revenues from concessions and raising passenger facility charges from $3 to $4.50, according to the Boston Globe.
In other brief US airline news:
- Washington Dulles received a $200 million pledge from the US Department of Transportation to help build a fourth runway. The airport’s third runway to be completed in 2008 will let the facility handle 50% more flights, DOT said.
- Tucson Airport Authority approved a $30+ million makeover plan for the food and beverage area to begin in May. The project involves extensive remodeling.
- The Illinois Department of Transportation purchased 172 acres of land for $2.4 million at the proposed South Suburban Airport near Peotone near the controversial new airport. Construction is set to begin next year.
