Boston’s Logan International Airport reports it has handled a record 36 million passengers in 2016, the sixth year in a row it has beat its previous best.
Airport authorities cite continued growth with new international flights launched during the year.
The airport now serves 53 international routes.
"Thirty-six million passengers is an incredible number," said Ed Freni, director of aviation for Massport.
Boston saw the sixth largest growth rate in the country with an overall 7.5% increase in passengers.
However the added passenger loads has caused a car parking crunch at the airport.
"We’ve had some challenges with parking. We need to do something to add to the number of parking spaces we have," said Massport chief executive Thomas P. Glynn.
Glynn said during peak times cars were parked literally wherever there was space available and drivers were given free valet service.
"It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to keep an airport like Logan running smoothly. I want to acknowledge all of the great work done by everyone who works at Logan," Glynn added.
The airport authority says Logan generates about $13 billion in economic activity for New England each year.
