Brain Breaks introduced to reduce meeting fatigue

The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne says it has a new way of replacing “head bobs with head nobs” to reduce typical meeting fatigue, which is often cited as a top concern for planners.

It’s “Brain Breaks,” which is a package to help ward off drowsiness with various amenities.

“These include riding stationary bikes, natural energy-boosting foods, yoga breaks and Wii games, so meeting attendees can get re-energized and organizers can boost productivity,” said Michelle Payer, area director of public relations.

Meeting participants start their morning with a sunrise, oceanfront “Sun Salutation” on the beach by a certified yoga instructor, who then returns to lead the group in stretching and breathing to ward off post-lunch doldrums.

“To combat drowsiness, attendees can hop on a stationary bike or stepper in the back of meeting rooms and not miss a beat,” Payer said.

Heavy carbohydrates are replaced with healthy snacks including granola and energy bars, trail mix combinations and frozen yogurt and fruit, which are all accompanied by spring and vitamin waters and green teas to energize the mind and stimulate creativity.

“We see the Brain Break package as a way to maximize participant engagement and productivity over this valuable time period, and ultimately contribute to a successful meeting,” said Derek Flint, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Key Biscayne.

The “Brain Break” meeting package is $18 per meeting attendee and $150 per yoga instructor (the hotel recommends one instructor per 25 guests). Package add-ons including Wii Fit stations in meeting break areas and spa teasers in-between presentations are available for additional fees.

The Ritz in Key Biscayne is the Mami area’s only AAA Five Diamond resort.
