Branson confirms India interest
Sir Richard Branson has publicly confirmed that he wants to enter India’s domestic aviation sector, following the launch of a Virgin Atlantic service from London to Mumbai last week. After the launch of the service last Thursday, the BBC News website reports, Sir Richard has announced that he sees India as “potentially the biggest overseas market for investment”, and that he was “looking for the right airline to partner” in terms of domestic flights. The entrepreneur is quoted as welcoming the arrival of “no-frills” carriers in the Indian domestic sector, and that it would help to bring down the cost of travel in the country. As reported by News From Abroad, Virgin Atlantic as a company is not allowed to buy into any of India’s carriers but, as an individual, Branson is free to invest where he chooses.
