Breeze Airways taps online university for flight attendant recruits
New airline Breeze Airways has a special requirement for all prospective flight attendants.
It wants all future cabin crew members to enroll full-time in online higher education.
It is partnering with Utah Valley University (UVU) and wants the full-time online students to complete 30 course hours per year, as well as complete their online degree in four years and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Breeze will reimburse up to $6,000 per year in tuition fees for most UVU programs and offer corporate housing.
JetBlue, which shares the same founder as Breeze, has a similar educational program offering degrees, but Breeze is the first in the US to make it mandatory.
"Twenty years ago, we brought humanity back to the airline industry with JetBlue. Now we’re excited to introduce plans for ‘the world’s nicest airline’," said founder David Neeleman.
Breeze was due to launch this year but has pushed it back to 2021 due to the pandemic.
It plans to fly to underserved cities across the US.
