Brit gets top job in Great Barrier Reef
A Brit has been selected for what has been billed as the world’s best job.
Ben Southall, 34, from Petersfield in Hampshire has been appointed caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef.
He beat more than 34,000 applicants to be offered the role after a massive publicity campaign was launched in January.
The campaign generated more than AU$110 million worth of global publicity for Queensland.
Southall has previously worked as a project manager, charity fundraiser, and a tour guide in Africa.
He starts his new job, based on Hamilton Island, on July 1.
