‘Britain best for breaks’ – Flybe

Monday, 25 Aug, 2006 0

Britain is still best for short breaks, according to figures released by Flybe.

The airline estimates that 85% of its passengers choose domestic air travel for weekend breaks rather than flying abroad.

The most popular route over the August Bank Holiday period is between Southampton and Jersey, with more than 2,500 passengers.

Flybe will carry almost 65,000 passengers over the Bank Holiday period, an 18.5% increase on last year.

Chief commercial officer Mike Rutter said: “Once again we’re seeing that cost effective and convenient air travel is encouraging people to travel to different areas of the UK.

“Because of its varied history and metropolitan culture Britain has so many fantastic things to see and do so it’s great to see so many people taking the time to explore different areas of the country.”

Flybe’s top 10 routes for the Bank Holiday are:

  1.      Southampton – Jersey

  2.      Southampton – Guernsey

  3.      Edinburgh – Southampton

  4.      Guernsey – Gatwick

  5.      Birmingham – Edinburgh

  6.      Exeter – Edinburgh

  7.      Birmingham – Belfast

  8.      Glasgow – Southampton

  9.      Birmingham – Glasgow

  10.     Jersey – Birmingham
