British, American and German tourists attacked in Afghanistan
British, American and German tourists have been attacked by militants in west Afghanistan.
The group were being escorted by Afghan army personnel to Herat city when their vehicle was ambushed by militants with small arms fire and an improvised explosives device.
Six of the group, which comprised eight Britons, three US citizens and one German, reportedly sustained light injuries and were being treated in hospital. The Afghan driver was also injured.
According to the BBC, a spokesman for the Taliban said it had carried out the attack.
The tourists had been on their way from Bamiyan to Herat, via Ghor.
Despite the ongoing insurgency, a small number of adventure tourists visits Afghanistan every year.
