British crash victims named
The two Britons who died in yesterday’s plane crash at Cork Airport in the Irish Republic have been named as co-pilot Andrew Cantle from York, and Richard Noble, who was from Derbyshire.
The Spanish pilot of the ill-fated Manx 2 flight, Jordi Lopez, also died in the crash along with four of the 10 passengers onboard. The other fatalities were Brendan McAleese, a cousin of the Irish President Mary McAleese’s husband, and Pat Cullinan and Michael Evans from Belfast.
According to Ireland’s RTE News, an initial report into the crash, which happened as the aircraft was trying to land in heavy fog, is expected within a month.
The Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder of flight NM7 100 have been located and removed from the scene, according to RTE News. They were taken to Dublin where specialist equipment will be used to download the material in them.
As the aircraft was an American-manufactured Fairchild Metroliner aircraft, experts from the National Transportation Safety Board in the US will be assisting experts from Ireland, Britain and Spain in the investigation.
