British man arrested for patting Egyptian security officer on back is freed
A British man detained on sexual assault charges in Hurghada for ‘patting’ an Egyptian security official on the back, has been freed.
Pressure group Detained in Dubai said the charges against Tony Camoccio, 50, were dismissed in court for lack of evidence.
Radha Stirling from Detained in Dubai said: "We are very happy to report that British citizen Tony Camoccio has been released from Egyptian custody after paying approximately £1,000 in bail and related fees. The case has been dismissed for lack of evidence, and Tony will be flying home to the UK on the next available flight from Cairo."
He was arrested at airport security in Hurghada last week and detained after patting an official on the back following a routine pat-down at a security checkpoint before boarding his flight.
Meanwhile, TUI flights have touched down once again in neighbouring Red Sea resort Sharm el Sheikh after a four-year absence.
