British schools told to cancel trips to France this week
UK schools are being advised not to go ahead with trips to France by the British and French governments as part of the response to Friday’s terror attacks in Paris.
As part of the national state of emergency, the French Ministry of Education has cancelled all school trips within France until Sunday 22 November.
This includes excursions to cultural sites and travel by school groups on public transport.
Although the cancellations don’t specifically include foreign school parties, the French Ministry of Education has advised foreign school groups to avoid travelling to France until at least next week.
As a result, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office is recommending that schools follow the advice and cancel any France trips scheduled to take place this week.
However, it said the French Ministry of Education has advised that school trips already under way in France may continue as originally planned.
A spokesperson for school travel specialists Equity said: "We are following advice provided by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Association of British Travel Agents, and the School Travel Forum to keep abreast of any restrictions which may impact on our tours scheduled to depart for France in the near future.
“Our team is in close contact with any clients who may be affected by travel restrictions to keep them informed of developments and is working closely with teachers and parents.
“We would like to offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to those affected by these terrible events.”
