British tourist and Italy beach worker die in tragic drowning
A British man and a beach worker have drowned at an Italian beach after they tried to save the holidaymaker’s daughter in rough seas.
Local reports say the young girl had been playing in the sea with her grandfather at Bosco Verde beach in Ostuni on the south-east coast when the pair got into trouble in the strong current.
The girl’s father, 48, and the local worker, 49, rushed in to help them but were also overcome by the waves.
Rescuers struggled to reach them but the girl and her grandfather were eventually brought to safety.
The incident happened on Thursday morning.
Officials say the coastline in this part of Italy is known for its high winds and strong currents.
