British tourist detained after woman’s body discovered in hotel room
A tourist from Northern Ireland is in police custody after the decomposing body of a woman was found in his Pattaya, Thailand hotel room.
Bearach Beataidh, 71 claims the 45 year old woman died of natural causes.
He said he didn’t alert authorities as he didn’t think she had actually died at the time.
Beataidh said he ‘didn’t ‘know she was dead’.
“The woman had been dead for at least three days. Her body had started to decay and bloat, giving off a foul smell throughout the room,” Pattaya City Police said.
He had taken the woman to the room on December 18 and she was discovered on December 22.
There was no signs of a struggle or injuries on the body.
”She kept vomiting and sleeping the whole time, but I did not think it was anything abnormal. I understood that she felt weak and exhausted. We last spoke on December 19,” Beataidh claimed to police.
Police doubt his story.
Police Captain Puttharak said: “Forensic police are continuing to collect fingerprints and DNA because we do not believe his testimony. All CCTV is being checked.”
