British Travel Awards winners announced

The winners of the 2021 / 22 British Travel Awards have been revealed. 

Announced by TV presenter Alison Hammond, the Gala Awards night was held in London in front of a travel industry crowd.

After a pandemic hiatus, the Awards were back before a live audience.

The travelling public cast more than 618,000 votes, across 62 award categories.

BTA director of events and partnerships, Lorraine Barnes Burton, said: “We saw a big rise in votes for travel comparison websites; and votes for travel insurance companies were up 30% on 2019.”

 

The Winners

 

Tour Operators

Tour operators Titan Travel and TravelBag each claimed seven gold trophies. Titan holds the record for most awards with an impressive 17 in total.

Blue Bay Travel did well in the large category, winning four gold awards.

In the small tour operator category companies that did well included Canterbury Travel, Distant Journeys and My Canada Trip.

 

Specialist Themed Holiday Awards

New this year were awards for companies offering specialist themed holidays in wine and gastronomy; culture and arts and walking and trekking.

Winning Best Travel Company for Arts & Culture Holidays, small category, was Ace Cultural Tours; Mercury Holidays took the same award in the medium category.

The Best Travel Company for Special Interest Holidays was given to Andante Travels, with GN Holidays & Voyages taking the medium and Inghams the large.

 

No-Fly Holidays

The demand for no-fly holidays is on the increase.

Escorted coach tour company Shearings picked up four golds in the large company category, including Best Travel Company for Escorted Group Holidays.  Sister coach holiday company Leger Holidays, collected three golds, in the medium category.

 

On the Water

Brittany Ferries triumphed with four awards.

The coveted Best Cruise Line for Ocean / Expedition voyages was awarded to Norwegian Cruise Line with P & O Cruises winning the Best Cruise Line for Family Holidays.

Hays Travel was awarded Best Travel Agency for Cruise Bookings.

 

Rail and Car

Railways Touring Company (small) and Rail Discoveries (medium) won Best Travel Company for Rail Holidays

Best Company for car hire was Europcar. APH (Airport Parking & Hotels) won Best Company for Airport Parking for the 12th year running.

 

Since 2008 the British Travel Awards has been polling the public on leisure travel companies.

The award accreditations are determined solely by the number of public votes cast.
