Briton killed in Faliraki
Traveller had been drinking when he attempted deadly stunt
A British traveller has been killed on the island of Rhodes in what appears to have been a daredevil stunt in front of his friends.
Today’s newspapers report that 29-year-old Matthew Benney died after boasting that he could roll under a slow-moving rubbish truck; he was caught by the rear wheels of the truck and died shortly afterwards.
Reports suggest that the friends were on their way back to their hotel in Faliraki after a night drinking. The driver of the truck was arrested at the scene but was later released without charge.
The victim’s brother, 27-year-old Damien, told the Daily Mail: “He loved being the centre of attention – he loved life and was always doing something. His friends loved him.”
