Britons warned of thieves and muggers in popular beach resort
British holidaymakers are being warned by the Foreign Office that they are being targeted by thieves and pickpockets in Bulgaria’s popular beach resorts, including Sunny Beach.
The Foreign Office said tourists should lock their hotel rooms and avoid taking valuables to the beach. They should be wary of poorly lit roads around the resort at night, it said.
"There has been an increase in burglaries from hotel rooms in Sunny Beach," it said in an updated statement on the Foreign Office website on Friday.
"Make sure you lock your room (including windows and balcony doors) and keep your valuables locked in a safe. Don’t change money on the streets in Sunny Beach, only at licensed exchange points, banks or hotels."
There have also been ‘numerous’ reports of pickpocketing, muggings and assaults of Britons by prostitutes and their minders around Sunny Beach and Burgas. "Avoid areas where prostitutes operate especially late at night, including car parks, badly lit areas and areas with bushes and trees," said the Foreign office. "Stick to main routes and avoid alleys and short cuts in Sunny Beach."
