Brits in strife over Dubai beach romp
DUBAI – Two Britons are facing possible jail sentences in Dubai after being accused of having sex on a beach.
UK Telegraph Online said publishing assistant Michelle Palmer, 30, and a visiting British man were arrested after allegedly being found in a clinch on Jumeirah beach following an afternoon of drinking.
Their arrests come amid a crackdown on “indecent” sunbathing and public kissing in Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates.
Friends claimed the couple have since gone through a hasty civil marriage ceremony to reduce any possible sentence they might face as sex outside of marriage is illegal in Dubai.
She is also said to be facing possible charges of indecent behaviour in public, being drunk in public, and assaulting a police officer.
The alleged incident last Friday came after an afternoon of drinking which began at the Alpha Club at Le Méridien Hotel near Dubai’s airport.
