Brittany Ferries cancels further crossings following fire
Brittany Ferries has been forced to cancel a number of crossings to France and Spain following a fire on its largest ship earlier this week.
The vessel, Pont-Aven, was on its way to Santander but had to be diverted to the French port of Brest for checks after a fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning.
The cruise-ferry was carrying 766 passengers and 142 crew when the alarm was raised at 4am local time.
The fire, detected in an engine room, was brought under control and there were no injuries.
The ship will be out of service until May 12.
Brittany Ferries has cancelled tonight’s Plymouth to Roscoff service and the Roscoff to Plymouth crossing on Saturday morning.
Yesterday’s Santander to Plymouth crossing was also cancelled.
A spokesman said: "We’re currently carrying out an investigation into the how the incident occurred, and looking into what repairs will be necessary and how long these will take.
"At this stage we have received confirmation that Pont-Aven is going to be out of action until she sails to Spain from Plymouth on Sunday 12 May at 15:45. In addition to this, in order for us to be able to maintain a service to/from Ireland, the Armorique will be operating to Cork so the Plymouth/Roscoff route will be suspended for the next two weekends.
"We’re currently contacting all affected customers to make alternative travel arrangements We offer our sincere apologies to all passengers affected."
