Brittany Ferries delays return to full service
Following the government’s green list announcement, Brittany Ferries confirmed it will not resume a full sailing schedule on 17 May as originally hoped for.
The decision comes following changes to international travel rules, and in particular clarification of the traffic light framework.
Normal sailings are now scheduled to resume on 6 June, but the situation will be continuously reviewed.
The company says it is hopeful that France and Spain will be re-allocated to the green list shortly.
As a result a number of services will not now operate until at least 6 June.
It includes Poole/Cherbourg, Portsmouth/St Malo, Portsmouth/Bilbao, Plymouth/Roscoff, Plymouth/Santander and Roscoff/Cork.
Passenger sailings on Portsmouth/Caen will also remain suspended.
Despite this the company will continue to operate a number of core services from 17 May until 6 June for those passengers who are still able to travel for essential reasons and for the carriage of freight.
These routes include Rosslare/Bilbao and Rosslare/Cherbourg, Portsmouth/Santander, Portsmouth/Cherbourg, and Portsmouth/Caen.
A number of freight only services will also run.
All affected customers will be contacted n order to arrange alternative sailings, or a refund.
Customers affected are requested to wait to be contacted due to the number of passengers impacted.
"We’re disappointed to be postponing our return to normal operations," said Christophe Mathieu, CEO Brittany Ferries.
"The reality is that current travel rules in our four markets – UK, France, Spain and Ireland – have significantly weakened demand. In the current climate, where our company relies on bank loans to carry it through the most difficult period in its history, it is simply not possible to run loss-making services without passengers."
