Brittany saves Cherbourg route
Brittany Ferries is to start sailings in the new year on the Portsmouth-Cherbourg route being dropped by P&O Ferries.
P&O is pulling off the route at the end of the year as part of a massive retrenchment to save costs, as previously reported.
Brittany is to recommence sailings on the route on January 3 with the ferry Val de Loire. This will be supplemented by a new high-speed service from mid-March to mid-November.
The company’s managing director David Longden said: “Many people, particularly those who have a property in France and are used to travelling via Cherbourg, will be reassured by our plans to provide continuity of service.
“We are currently working on details of the schedules which will be announced within the next month.”
