Brochure complaints ‘petty’ say ABTA
ABTA has branded criticisms by Holiday Which? of brochure descriptions as “petty” after the consumer watchdog highlighted a series of customer complaints against operators.
Holiday Which? said the distance from hotels to the beach were shortened and that dual carriageways and railway lines separated properties from the sea. Other holidaymakers complained of building work when nothing was mentioned in the brochure.
But an ABTA spokesman told the BBC some of the complaints were unjustified.
“We’ve looked at them and we believe some are petty,” he said. “Resorts have roads so the fact there is a road outside a hotel is hardly cause for complaint.
“Of course people should be told if there is building work but that is not a brochure issue. You mustn’t forget that brochures are printed up to a year in advance so operators will not necessarily know that work has been planned.”
He said the number of complaints about fictional brochure descriptions was dropping.
