Budget airline pricing for Eurotunnel
Eurotunnel is to adopt a variable pricing system similar to no-frills airlines.
The Channel Tunnel vehicle operator is introducing a new ticketing system quoting fares for single trips with prices varying depending on how early people book and the time of travel.
Fares will start at £49 one-way for a vehicle and up to nine passengers. Overnight/24-hour returns start at £30.
Short stay saver fares starting at £78 offer discounts of up to 50% on standard rates and apply to breaks of up to five days.
A new FlexiPlus tariff offers a flat rate irrespective of time of travel, including dedicated check-in, priority boarding, use of a lounge and free light meals, drinks and newspapers.
A newlook website at www.eurotunnel.com is claimed to make booking online faster and easier.
Eurotunnel passenger division director Jo Willacy said: “We’ve listened to what customers have been telling us about the comlexity of cross-channel pricing. Our new standard fare structure is based on single crossings and is purely demand driven. As our shuttles fill up, so the fare increases. Likewise, the earlier you book, the better the deal.”
Eurotunnel chairman Jacques Gounon is quoted as saying that ticket prices would vary dramatically.
“It’s a bit crazy this has not been done in the past,” he reportedly said.
