Budget? What Budget?
Holiday spending budgets are of little concern to the majority of British travellers, according to a survey by Cheapholidaydeals.co.uk. A survey by the company revealed that 67% of travellers from the UK either overspend or do not set a budget at all, with a third of these respondents overspending by up to £250 per trip. When asked why they overspent in this way, 86% blamed their own “carefree attitude while away”, and “losing track of spending”. Perhaps unsurprisingly, these spending patterns are blamed more on men, with 69% of women claiming to allocate a specific amount for their holiday spend. David Soskin, chief executive of the company, said: “These results show that for Brits, holidays are clearly about fun, not finance. When you consider that the average package holiday costs £460 per person, some people are overspending by half the cost of their actual holiday. “It confirms that when it comes to out time off, we are willing to spend that extra bit of money and work it off when we come home. The though of debt seems to evaporate in the sun.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
