Business agent to tackle emissions crisis
Business agency Portman Travel is to send monthly reports to clients spelling out how much Carbon Dioxide emissions have been generated by their staff’s business trips.
It will also tell corporates how they can help offset the damage being done.
The move comes as Portman signed what it claimed was a “groundbreaking scheme” with climate change company The CarbonNeutral Company. Under the scheme, the agency will encourage customers to offset their emissions by supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable projects around the world.
Managing director Graham Flack said it will lead by example.
“We are delighted to be the first travel management company in the UK implementing a CarbonNeutral flights programme for our own employees and enabling businesses to minimise the climate change impacts caused by their employees’ travel.
“Experts warn that the travel industry is the fastest growing source of CO2 emissions in the world. It is important that responsible organisations within our industry look at ways of reducing greenhouse gases caused by their operations.
“Our customers travelled nearly 900 million km by air last year. This gives Portman a unique opportunity to help them become eco-smart by reducing their environmental footprint.”
In partnership with The CarbonNeutral Company, Portman will raise awareness of the damage of greenhouse gases and encourage customers to support environmental schemes around the world.
