Call for new London heliport
A major redevelopment of the London Heliport at Battersea is progressing on schedule for completion next year to coincide with its 50th anniversary.
For the longer term, operator PremiAir is backing the creation of a new heliport to the east of London.
“This would be of huge benefit to both the aviation industry and Britain plc, ahead of the 2012 Olympics,” said business development manager David Langton.
PremiAir, which manages a fleet of 17 aircraft, was forced to introduce a landing slot allocation system at the heliport last summer due to the rising demand for helicopter travel.
Slots are allocated on a based on a first come, first served basis, designed to ensure the heliport complies with its annual movement limit of 6,000 landings.
When completed the revamped Battersea site will include a 70-room luxury boutique-style hotel and an executive aviation facility, providing panoramic views across the heliport and River Thames, with meeting and conference rooms and VIP lounges.
New artist’s impressions of the heliport, managed by helicopter charter company PremiAir, are released this week to coincide with the Business Travel Show in London.
The capital’s only Civil Aviation Authority-licensed public heliport was acquired by PremiAir’s owners, luxury hotel group von Essen, in March last year.
Langton said: “Helicopters are essentially about saving time. More and more discerning travellers are realising the time-saving and stress-free benefits that point-to-point helicopter charter delivers.
“We are providing an exclusive service for busy executives whose time is money, enabling them to schedule meetings at three or four different locations throughout the UK in just one day and be back in London for dinner with an overseas client. No other mode of transport enables them to do this.”
