Campland: Introducing kids to the great outdoors

Wednesday, 05 Feb, 2022 0

Campland on the Bay, San Diego’s famed beachfront playground retreat, offers perfect days of family fun with outdoor activities and upscale amenities available to campers year-round.

"Coming off of a year of virtual learning and increased screen time, the opportunity to spend time outdoors together as a family is more desirable than ever," says Ahmed Ait-Lahcen, General Manager of Campland on the Bay.

"With a variety of open-air experiences for campers of all ages to enjoy, Campland provides the perfect natural backdrop."

From its location on the shores of the nation’s largest aquatic park surrounded by beaches and bike paths, Campland offers a dynamic recreation experience for all. Here’s what to expect with Campland’s top five ways to entertain kids outdoors.

Get on the Water

Watersports: Take advantage of Campland’s unique bayfront location and San Diego’s temperate climate by enjoying an array of watersports activities year round. Rent a kayak, pedal boat or pontoon boat from the Campland Marina or visit Adventure Watersports, located next to the marina office to rent ski boats, wave runners and stand up paddleboards.

Join the Fun

Daily Activities & Events: Experience on-shore fun and meet other campers with Campland’s ever-evolving, daily activity schedule including arts and crafts, kickball, ping pong, dodgeball, photo scavenger hunts and more. Stay centered during a midweek getaway and join Campland’s complimentary yoga classes held on the Central Park lawn Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am.

Play and Skate

Huff & Puff Park & Friendly Bowl Skateboard Park: Keep kids of all ages busy and active at Campland’s playground, Huff & Puff Park, or at the Friendly Bowl skateboard park, just a short walk from any campsite.

Cruise Around

Surrey Cart, Electric Bike & Beach Cruiser Rentals: Tour the resort grounds or take the Mike Gotch Memorial Bridge to nearby Mission Bay Bike Path to explore 12 miles of flat, scenic bike paths along the interior of Mission Bay.

Make a Splash

Heated Pools & Spas: Double the fun with Campland’s two pools and two spas. Have a relaxing soak in the hot tub after a day on the water, take a refreshing dip after a bike ride around the bay, or spend family fun time at the pool.

After an action-packed day, refuel at Campland’s Cantina restaurant, serving up family favourites including pizza, tacos, burgers, and fresh salads..

Campland’s activities and amenities are available to campers staying at Campland on the Bay and Mission Bay RV Resort, accessible via a short walk or bike ride over the Mike Gotch Memorial Bridge. For guests who are new to camping or do not own an RV, Campland on the Bay and Mission Bay RV Resort have a directory of local RV rental companies listed on their websites that will deliver a sanitized RV to your site, all hooked up and ready to enjoy.
