Canadian passenger facing fine for refusing to wear mask
A Canadian passenger is facing a fine for refusing to wear a mask.
Police were called to the James Richardson Winnipeg International Airport to deal with a 39-year-old man who would not wear a face mask despite instruction from flight attendants.
He is facing a charge of failing to comply with instructions of flight crew which could result in a fine of $5,000.
It is the second time police have been called to Winnipeg Airport to deal with an anti-masker.
On June 14 a man refused to put on a mask and also lit a cigarette in the cabin.
The plane was diverted to Winnipeg and he now faces multiple charges.
Canada’s federal government has made the wearing of masks mandatory, something the US has failed to do.
While virtually all US airlines have instructed passengers to wear face coverings, it is not an offense to refuse to do so.
Airlines have only threatened anti-maskers with being placed on their no-fly list.
The US Federal Aviation Administration has declined to mandate face coverings for travelers on planes, despite calls from lawmakers and unions representing cabin crew.
