Canaries and Majorca Thomson’s top online searches

Tenerife, Majorca and Gran Canaria were the top three searched for destinations online for a package holidays in January, according to Thomson.

The top three booked destinations showed a similar pattern with Majorca, Tenerife and Gran Canaria emerging as the favourites among consumers.

Flight-only searches also matched the Spanish trend with Alicante, Malaga and Tenerife emerging as the top three while the top three flight destinations booked were Malaga, Alicante and Palma.

The operator claims to be attracting about one million visitors to its main Thomson.co.uk website a week – a 50% increase in traffic year-on year. Consumers are spending an average of 13 minutes on the site with 55% of searchers being female and 45% male.

Online destination videos also proved popular with 1.5 million viewed in January. Thomson believes about two million of its videos are viewed monthly when those looked at through Google Video, Yahoo and Myspace are taken into account. The top five destinations viewed on the site in January were the Red Sea, Tunisia, Majorca, the Algarve and Cyprus.
