Cancelled flights as snowbound Stansted Airport closed
Heavy show has been playing havoc at London airports with numerous cancelled flights.
All flights were suspended at Stansted after it closed its snowbound runway.
Heathrow and Gatwick also cancelled flights and delayed many more.
Weather warnings are in effect around London, Scotland, and the southwest England.
“Delays to flights were experienced due to de-icing of aircraft,” a Stansted spokesperson said.
“Passengers are advised to check with their airline for current flight status.”
There were over 50 cancelled flights at Heathrow on Sunday.
The airport said it hopes to get passengers in the air and to their destinations as soon as possible.
Heathrow said it will continue restricting flights at the airport, which will mean further flight disruption.
Gatwick Airport temporarily closed one of its runways Sunday evening.
“Every effort is being made to get these flights back to Gatwick tonight,” a spokesman said.
“Freezing weather conditions are expected to continue this evening and may cause further disruption at the airport.
“Passengers travelling this evening and tomorrow are advised to check their flight status.”
On Saturday, Manchester Airport closed both its runways due to heavy snow.
