Car blast in Turkish tourist town
Around a dozen people were injured early today when a car exploded in the tourist resort of Antalya.
The cause of the blast, which happened in a car park, is not known but the city’s mayor Menderes Turel said it might not have been a terror attack.
He said about 10 or 12 people were hit by flying glass following the blast explosion outside the town’s Trade and Industry Chamber, but none of the injuries was serious.
"It could be an explosion caused by an accident. Initial information suggests there are no life-threatening (injuries)," he told broadcaster CNN Turk.
Just 10 days ago, it was reported that two rockets had hit a commercial office in Antalya province, which lies on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, but no-one was injured.
At the time, it was claimed the rockets were fired from a mountainous area at the highway between the city of Antalya and the resort town of Kemer.
The ABTA Convention was held in the resort of Belek, Antalya in 2012. Antalya is also close to the tourist meccas of Marmaris and Bodrum.
