Caribbean Tourism Organization reports hurricane damage
Grenada suffered severe damage from hurricanes Frances and Ivan, acknowledged the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).
The CTO said specific details are still being determined.
Their assessment of various areas:
• In Barbados, the Hotel and Tourism Association confirmed the island was spared the full strength of Hurricane Ivan and the vast majority of hotels are fully operational, with only four hotels suffering minimal damage. The airport is also open. The cruise terminal is expected to be open by now.
• In Martinique, all services are operational.
• In St. Lucia, initial indications show the only problem is limited beach erosion.
• St. Vincent and the Grenadines reported damages in the millions of dollars. However, there were no reports of significant damage to the hotel or tourism infrastructure. Visitors are safe but some areas remained without electricity.
• In Trinidad and Tobago, preliminary reports show no damage to the tourism infrastructure.
