Carnival clamps down on boozers onboard
Carnival Cruise Line has imposed a ban on drinks being brought onboard its ships in an attempt to prevent passengers smuggling alcohol into their cabins.
From July 9, the only alcohol passengers will be able to bring aboard is a single bottle of wine or champagne on embarkation, according to a report in American journal, USA Today.
Soft drinks including water and juices must be packaged in unopened cans or cartons, and passengers will be allowed a maximum of 12 in their carry-on luggage.
Passengers will no longer be able to tag beverages for embarkation as checked luggage.
In a letter being sent to passengers, Carnival said bottled drinks have become a means of passengers bringing ‘unauthorized’ alcohol on cruises, which it said were often the cause of bad behaviour onboard ships.
The letter also said that staff cannot effectively monitor consumption of alcohol that isn’t sold on the ships.
